BRIEFLY GORGEOUS
There is beauty in every creature.
Toads are considered ugly. With their rough, warty drab coloured toxic skin and bulbous eyes, it’s perhaps difficult to disagree.
Old toad, ugly toad, greedy toad - or simply just ‘toad’ are derogatory terms we use all the time and of course ‘you have to kiss many toads before you find a prince’ - in other words you have to endure undesirable encounters and unpleasantness before finding the right person.
Well, for one day every year, that changes. For one day every year, toads do something so beautiful, so human, so moving that even the most hardened heart will agree that they become adorable.
Toads come out of their winter hibernation around Valentine’s Day. They clean themselves up, make themselves look presentable and then walk (they only hop when they feel threatened) to the nearest water to find love.
In that moment, they become Briefly Gorgeous.
